Donald Trump’s First Year In Office
Looking back on Donald Trump’s first year in office, it is clear he has done numerous things to assist the United States in being the best nation in the world. I support Donald Trump and all of the great things he has done for your country so far. Many liberals believe that Donald Trump’s presidency would end in an indictment or impeachment but that hasn’t, and will likely never be the case. However, Donald Trump, with his positive impact on the economy and numerous successes has been great this year.
The numbers don’t lie. When Trump walked into office, the unemployment rate in the United States was at 4.8% (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics) and in Trump’s first year in office, it dropped down to 4.1%, though it is hard to tie that directly toward Trump’s policies. As Donald Trump came into office, the stock market was at 2,271.31 according to NPR and at the end of Donald Trump’s first year in office the stock market rose to 2,810.30.
Donald Trump has had quite a few great successes this past year. He has hired women in senior-level positions in the White House. Coverage suggests that Donald Trump hires mainly white men, but that is not true. According to Analysis from the New York Times, Trump has the whitest cabinet of the last six Presidents. However, that is not true he has hired women who are minorities, first generation Mexican immigrants, women whose parents are Indian American Sikh immigrants, and Mercedes Schlapp whose father was once a political prisoner of Fidel Castro. So, people who say that he only hires white male men are just blatantly wrong. The amount of women Donald Trump hires is very impressive and provides a great example for young girls who want to have an impact on this world.
According to The Hill, Donald Trump has accomplished even more. There have been more than one million bonuses given out to American workers because of Trump’s leadership on the tax reform. The number of immigrants crossing the border illegally has lowered by 76%, unemployment has been at a 17 year low and slowed by 12%, and Trump has added 2.2 Million Jobs according to FactCheck.org. In Barack Obama´s first six months in office, 3.4 million jobs were lost (CNN.)
Donald Trump has affected people in Walnut Creek. Companies in our city have more money to fund or invest and grow -- increasing the value of companies that are privately owned. A company called Izmo based in San Francisco is being helped by Trump’s tax plan in a very positive way. The company is using the estimated tax savings to invest in hiring new employees. They are also using it to invest in new business ventures that the company believes will lead to long-term growth and more hiring. They also have given salary raises because of the tax savings.
Despite the backlash and criticism that Donald Trump has received, there is no denying some of the great things that he has done for our country. As we embark on Trump’s second year in office, as a conservative, I have no doubt that Donald Trump will accomplish great things just as he did in 2017.
