A “Happy” Medium For Tax Payers and Undocumented Immigrants

People who entered the country illegally shouldn’t receive the same benefits as legal citizens.

Illegal immigration places a heavy toll on the U.S. government and taxpayers. In fact, according to the advocacy group Federation for American Immigration Reform, illegal immigration costs the country $113 billion a year.

Lots of this money is directly traceable to healthcare. Many Americans do not want their taxes to pay for people who have entered the country illegally. I think this problem could be solved by creating privately funded healthcare companies for illegal immigrants.

In 2015, the Center for Immigration Studies published a study that showed that over half of immigrant-led households used a minimum of one federal welfare program, compared to thirty percent of native-born citizens. In fact, according to Washington- examinor.com, illegal immigrants are often payed more money in welfare than citizens.

Although Americans shouldn’t be burdened with paying taxes for illegal immigrants, they are people too. So, since immigrants who enter the country illegally know they’re entering illegally, if they want to benefit from government policies such as healthcare, they should work proactively for visas, green cards, or citizenship.

The average household of an illegal immigrant collected around $24,000 in government benefits in 2010, while only giving around $10,000 in taxes. The total cost of all these households added up to an astonishing 54.5 billion dollars.

I do not think the Trump Administration should deport the 450,000 unauthorized farm workers in California.

The vast majority of illegal immigrants are hard workers trying to support a family, and many are willing to be greatly underpaid for their hard work. The problem is that they’re costing more to the economy than they’re giving.

I do however believe that illegal immigration may become inevitable, in which case it would have to be embraced in order to prevent chaos. Additionally, we should ease the requirements for citizenship in that case. In order to become eligible for naturalization, you must complete a citizenship test. The test focuses on laws, government, and U.S. history. You must also meet a few other requirements, such as having good morals and being fluent in basic English.

Although I may not agree with every- thing Trump has to say, I do agree that border security is an extremely important issue that needs to be addressed.

I believe slightly easier citizenship tests may be a partial solution to this dilemma.

I think the focus should be shifted completely to perfecting the border security and the citizenship process itself rather than deporting the men and women who have bypassed it.
