Las Lomas's soon to be college athletes had their signing during lunch on Feb. 1. Their college search all started when they put their names out into the recruiting world and started getting offers

“At the beginning, you need to get your name out there to the colleges and get them to recognize you,” said soon to be ULCA water polo player Bailey Jarvis. “Once you get your first offer, a bunch more offers start coming in.”

For all four of this years' athletes, playing in college has always been a dream for them.

“Every since freshman year I have always wanted to play,” said Jarvis.

“Ever since 8th grade I was like ‘Oh, I want to play division one soccer’, but I didn’t think it could actually happen,” said soon to be Fullerton soccer player Haley Brown, “It’s like a dream come true.”

For these athletes, choosing between colleges wasn’t an easy decision. They had to narrow down their offers based on certain factors like the school environment, the scholarship offered, and the dynamics of the team itself.

“My top two were UCLA and Stanford,” said Jarvis. “I picked UCLA over Stanford because I thought that the team was a better unit, and I like the environment at UCLA more.”

In Madison Ward’s case she chose Colorado State because she really connected to the swimming team and the school’s campus. “The program is awesome. It’s just a girl’s team, so I get more one-on-one,” said Ward, “The atmosphere was what I was looking for.”

Roxy Wheaton chose UCLA because of her long held admiration for the school. “I narrowed it down between three schools. It was basically Cal, UCLA, and Michigan,” said Wheaton, “I have always wanted to go to UCLA.” “The coach came to my house and had a one-on-one with me, and that’s when I committed."
