The Finish Line

Strength, stamina and endurance are the three key attributes of a superhero, which also describe our very own LL Knights Track and Field team. The LL Track and field team is on a fast trip to success. The team is composed of seniors (like David Amur) all the way to Freshman (like Joseph Anderson) but is still evenly balanced with who has speed. For instance, even though they have a senior, David Amur that can run 200 meters in 26.21 seconds, a Sophomore, Joseph Anderson clocks in his time at around 26.08 seconds for the same run.

Recently Las Lomas went head to head with Clayton Valley in a series of races, with one of the longest being the 1600 meter race in which junior, Preston Norris held the fastest time at 4:16. In the same race, alongside with the Las Lomas boys in the 3200 meter run. Veronica Towle clocked her time in at 12:14.32, destroying the runner up from Clayton Valley. The LL track team has had various meets in the past year, including the Diablo Athletic League finals DAL Las Lomas vs. Clayton Valley. In the Diablo Athletic League Finals where Las Lomas, Campolindo, Miramonte, Clayton Valley, North Gate and College Park. Las Lomas won two of the longest runs with the previously stated champion, Preston Norris.

In the DAL however, the outcome was very different, with Las Lomas winning five out of six Speed competitions thanks to Sophia Pardo, Taylor Weidinger, Veronica Towle, Preston Norris and Lucas Humel. Besides the war of speed happening on the red, rough track outside, another team of Cross country for Las Lomas is winning their own battles. The LL Cross Country team is a team dedicated to the endurance factor of running, this means that they run much further races than track. At the Clovis Invitational the LL Cross country team on the men’s side gathered 428 points putting them at 13th place, while the girls of the LL team scored us 196 points launching us to 5th place. Las Lomas, even with its students, doesn’t have such a huge reputation for winning, but everyone in the school and the teams themselves still have pride. Everyone wants them to succeed and with these scores, everyone’s more and more impressed by them. With a whole year of practice behind them, we all know they’ll out run any other school that challenges us.
