One Last Meet

Waking up early to exhaust yourself before a long day of school isn’t something that a lot of people can do. It takes discipline, commitment and dedication to be so motivated in a sport, which are exactly the qualities LL swimmers have. The Las Lomas swim team is probably one of the hardest working teams on campus. Junior Maggie McGlynn, a 3 year swimmer for the team, knows the struggle of swim team first hand. “You have to make it to either 4 or 5 practices each week… from 3:15 - 5:15” said McGlynn. For the swimmers on the team, if the stated 4 or 5 practices a week aren’t met, a morning practice is mandatory to make up the players quota.

However, the swim team isn’t as strict in practice as it would seem. When asked about the environment and the energy in the pool, McGlynn says “It is usually a fun environment depending on what type of set we are doing. If it’s a harder set there is a more serious feel but overall there are fun vibes. Sometimes we have music playing while we swim.” The swim team still manages to have as much fun as possible during practice, which is why Maggie has had so much fun during her past three years of aquatic success. Maggie has accomplished a time of 2 minutes and 21 seconds, coming in at 14th place in the teams girls 200 yard freestyle, and that’s 14 out of 29 other swimmers on the team. On the girls side, the fastest swimmer in the longest swim (200 yard) is senior Sophia Hilsabeck Ranking in at 2 minutes and 3 seconds, while on the boys side of the same swim Kenson Chau clocked his time at 1 minute and 55 seconds.

The swim team is showing what they can do with these times, and there is no doubt that they’ll just get faster and faster.
