HILT CYAN
Blair Selph, Las Lomas alumni of the class of 2017, published her debut graphic novel HILT CYAN on Match 16th. The book is illustrated by Amy Hao and edited by Kiran O’Farrell, who were also members of the Las Lomas class of 2017.
Selph, Hao, and O’Farrell were all part of the Octothorpic Club during their time at Las Lomas, which was a project-based club founded by Selph. Aside from HILT CYAN, the Octothorpic club has worked on many other projects including interactive novels, video games, concept albums and comics.
“HILT CYAN follows Georgia Millward, a mercenary, as she takes part in a deadly sniper tournament put together by the vice president of the monolithic Bell Industries. If she succeeds in defeating the other competitors and overcoming her personal demons, she will gain the knowledge of the mysterious - and magical - Shiron,” said Selph.
HILT CYAN was self-published using Amazon’s platform CreateSpace and is currently available through Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. Self-publishing the novel was a long process but proved to be very rewarding.
“The best part of writing is when you discover something about a character or about the setting you hadn’t planned for. There are facets of Georgia’s character that I didn’t know existed when I first starting writing the story, and they only came to me half-way through the writing process,” said Selph. “Seeding these character changes back into the beginning of the story was one of the reasons it took me and Kiran so long to edit the thing, but it was worth it.”
Selph and the other members of the Octothorpic Club are looking forward to working on more projects in the feature including possible sequels to HILT CYAN.
