A New Season Ahead

After losing 16 seniors on boy’s varsity lacrosse, the team is about to face huge changes as they prepare for the season ahead. “We are composed of a team of sophomores and juniors,” said sophomore Nicky Ciotola. The team is very new and young.
In order to get to that next level, Sophomore Bailey Rios “ tried to get reps every day whether that’s taking draws or wall ball,” The team had practices where the captains led it every Saturday. They were all working very hard to improve their skills before tryouts which were the first week of February. “This year will be different because the boys are closer, and have a bond that differs from other years,” said Rios.
A lot of the players want to make the most of the upcoming season; it seems to go by so fast to them and some only have one year left before they graduate.
Lacrosse is a very ruthless sport. “Lacrosse is by far one of the most competitive sports I’ve ever played,” said sophomore Jalen Madden.

The lacrosse team has a lot of big goals for the season. “I would like to see my stats increase from last year,” said Rios. Some of the other teammates want to be positive leaders for the upcoming season -- giving their all in practices and games so they can enjoy it to the fullest. Junior Max Sherrod hopes “everyone improves and that our team can develop some good chemistry.”
The team has a number of new players coming in and this year they are hoping to focus on “being the best players they can be,” said Madden. Lacrosse isn’t a popular sport on the West Coast and the goal is to increase its popularity. “I hope we have a bigger audience than last year. Lacrosse is a pretty small sport here but the roster we have this year will be so much fun,” said Madden.
“This year will be more of a building season, but I expect a good season,” said Sherrod. Lacrosse is going to face changes hopefully for the good, and maybe for the bad, but the school is about to find out.
