Super Bowl is Over but March Madness is Around the Corner
Super Bowl LII was a good one with the Philadelphia Eagles defeating the New England Patriots with a final score of 41-33. This game was crazy from the start to the finish; the Eagles started out in the lead with a field goal from rookie kicker Jake Elliott. The Patriots quickly responded with a field goal of their own.
LeGarrette Blount and Alshon Jeffery from The Eagles then scored two straight touchdowns. The two teams both scored a touchdown in the final 2:30 of the first half. The first half ended with the Eagles leading 22-12. People could already tell that this game was going to be great after just one half. Both teams were clicking on all cylinders on offense and had only punted once in the first half.
Even though the Patriots were down, that did not phase them as they drove all the way down the field in just three minutes with a touchdown from Rob Gronkowski pulling within three points. The Eagles responded with a touchdown of their own by Corey Clement pushing the lead back to 10 points with a score of 29-19. But the Patriots wouldn’t go down and scored again, this time from Chris Hogan, and the lead for the Eagles at the end of the third quarter was just three.
Both teams offenses were rolling and their defenses couldn’t stop the opposing team's offense. To open the fourth quarter rookie Jake Elliot nailed another field goal from 42 yards to put the Eagles up by six. Then once again, this time to take the lead, Tom Brady proved why he is the greatest and lead the team down the field resulting in another Rob Gronkowski touchdown: his second of the game putting them up a single point.
With only 2 minutes to go Zach Ertz who has been stellar all year scored his first touchdown of the game putting the Eagles up by five. The Eagles managed to stop Tom Brady and add on one more field goal to their final score.
This Super Bowl was packed with excitement with both offenses combing for the most total yards in a Super Bowl EVER. Though the Eagles starting quarterback Carson Wentz tore his ACL, Nick Foles came in and performed just as well and won Super Bowl MVP, which most likely will earn him a starting job in the Offseason.
Now that football is over one of the biggest basketball tournaments is just around the corner with March Madness a tournament with 62 teams competing for a national championship. This year has already been filled with stars ready to compete for it all with Freshman stars Trae Young (Oklahoma), Marvin Bagley (Duke), and DeAndre Ayton (Arizona). Last year's champion was the
North Carolina Tarheels. The tournament included buzzer beaters, upsets, and cinderella stories.
This is one of the most exciting times to be a fan of collegiate sports. But you do not need to be a fan to participate in the ESPN Tournament Challenge as more than 1,000,000 people participate in the tournament each year, and best of all it's free. March Madness is such a fun time in sports and games will start on March 13th. Definitely give it a try.
