Focus: The Women of A Piece of My Heart
Mariella Floum (Martha)
Q: How long have you been in drama?
A: I have been in the Las Lomas theatre department for two years.
Q: What was your reaction when you got this role?
A: This was the role I was hoping for all along. I saw a sort of strength I wanted to work with.
Isabella Martelino (Leeann)
Q: How did you get involved with the drama department?
A: I used to watch my sisters perform in shows, so just watching them made me want to pursue that too.
Q: What was your reaction when you got this role?
A: I was ecstatic about playing the role of someone who I identify with to my core. Leeann’s an Asian American party girl with a medical career-- exactly what I plan my path to be.
Kyra Glass (Sissy)
Q: How long have you been in drama?
A: Too long. This is my fourth and final year as a thespian in the Las Lomas Drama Department.
Q: Do you relate to your character in anyway?
A: You betcha! She finds comfort in what she believes in and I do the same. She has such a capacity for love after all she’s been through... I try to live my life with as much compassion as possible. Though admittedly, this does not always work out.
Keelyn Snoderly (MaryJo)
Q: Why do you like this role?
A: ... Living her experiences and memories from the war makes me feel like I’m growing with her. She is a charming, sexy Texan who loves to eat. What’s not to like?
Q: What was your reaction when you got this role?
A: Kyra Glass and I saw the cast list go up together, and when we saw our roles we squealed and FaceTimed some of our friends at college to share the good news.
Colette Shaw (Whitney)
Q: Why do you like this role?
A: This role has been a challenge because Whitney is not always a likable person, but she is complicated, and very real.
Q: How did you build your character? What was your interpretation?
A: I built my character by reading white feminist Instagram accounts.
Laila Amro (Steele)
Q: Why do you like this role?
A: Steele is very, very funny.
Q: Do you relate to your character in anyway?
A: I feel as if Steele and myself are very similar. We both have strong demeanors and handle racism with comedy.
“I looked at a lot of pictures from Vietnam and the jungle. It’s all warm toned... In lighting, we reflect those emotions they’re feeling onto the stage with colors and shapes. Every light is there for a reason.”
-Sara Marsey, stagecraft crew head
“I want to transport the audience into Vietnam and in America post-war to make the real life stories even more real.”
-Mr. Hensley
