Bow Down: Las Lomas’ Homecoming Legends

As the 2017 Homecoming week comes to an end, eight amazing Las Lomas students have been recognized as being legends on campus and will go down in history as royalty. In the past, students have been chosen based on couples and friendships, but this year students were chosen due to their knightly actions and how they have impacted the school. It is clear that there is a unique culture that spreads throughout our campus and those nominated are great examples of this culture.

Freshman Prince and Princess

Jack Johansen and Samantha Melin are the exemplary representatives of the freshman class. Jack is well respected by his peers because of his kind and outgoing personality. Along with these traits, Jack maintains a positive attitude which impacts Las Lomas. He revealed that he was shocked when he discovered he had been nominated because “I didn’t think I was the type of candidate they were looking for.” Overall, he thought the process was fun and loved being apart of this new experience with Samantha, who he has known since the sixth grade.

Sophomore Prince and Princess

Good friends Nadia Grenville and Saharuss Jiradejvong were thrilled to be representing the Sophomore class. Nadia was surprised and happy to be nominated, but found the process to be scary and intimidating, “I didn’t want to go in front of the whole school,” she said. Nadia hopes to impact the school in a positive way, by being friendly and putting smiles on peoples faces. She also encourages collaboration, versus competition amongst her peers which causes them to look up to her.

Junior Prince and Princess

Representing the Junior class, we have Ava Olson and Nathan Merz. Both nominees have engaging personalities and encourage the spirit of Las Lomas. Ava said “ I was pleasantly surprised when I was nominated because I didn’t think people saw me as a leader.” She also thinks royalty is fun and is happy to be the junior class representative. Ava impacts Las Lomas by promoting school spirit through encouraging people to participate in activities and school dress days. She thinks her peers look up to her because she is involved in many school activities and likes to get her classmates involved.

Senior King and Queen

Now what we have all been waiting for…. Your King and Queen, Anna Ostrander and James Howe. This special couple has been dating for 2 years and 5 months and were super excited to share this experience together. Anna wasn’t surprised when she found out she was nominated because her friends had sent her pictures of the ballots with her name on it. But during the rally when she picked up her box and a balloon flew up she was ecstatic to find out she had won. When Anna shared the news with her family, they were also surprised and told her “it was the first time an Ostrander has ever won something like this.” One thing Anna wishes she could change is having the royalty announced during the football game so she could share the victory with her family. Anna impacts Las Lomas by getting her friends involved with activities such as hall decorating and other Homecoming events.
