Offensive Graffiti Found in Boy’s Restroom

On Monday, Sept. 11, offensive graffiti written in black sharpie was found in the boy’s bathroom in the 300 wing at Las Lomas High School. The graffiti was a threat directed toward Muslim students, reading “Death to Islam.”

This being the second case of threatening graffiti of the year found at Las Lomas, certain members of the school administration, including Associate Principal David Granzotto, have been quick to develop a procedure for handling these situations.

Over an email interview with The Page, Granzotto shares the ways he and others in his team are dealing with this incident.

“First, we've approached a number of student groups to spread awareness and to elicit input about what steps we can take. Second, we're going to incorporate some education surrounding diversity in the Freshman Seminars. Third, we are going to push up the date of this year's CARE week, which will take place in November. Finally, we are planning some gesture of solidarity with the school's Muslim students, to demonstrate that the graffiti does not represent who we are as a school.”

From the evidence gathered so far, Granzotto has come to believe that this was an act done by a single student. “Every student I’ve talked to about it has condemned it unequivocally.”
