Boys Varsity Volleyball Recap

With a 21-9 record, the boys varsity volleyball team has rocketed their way through their season and into NCS.

The team continued to be victorious during their first round on May 9th against San Marin with a score of 3-0.

Overall, the team has demonstrated strong growth throughout the course of the season. “We took it seriously and came through together and won,” said Junior Cody Howard, on their win against San Marin. “It was a successful game and everyone got to play.”

Despite their lack of height and communication, the team has learned to maintain a steady foundation.

“We definitely have a closer bond than last year,” said Howard. “The team was more divided, but this year we have learned to be more balanced.”

The team also won their May 13th home match against Alameda, with a score of 3-0.

The game was part of their second division of NCS, with their following match held on May 16th against Campolindo. “I think about how I can help the team for the entire day on game day,” said Howard.

Senior captain Daniel Nyguen also spoke about how the team prepares before playing a game.

“Before the game we get pumped and have a talk,” said Nyguen. “We go into it seriously.” Although the team lost against Cam- polindo, they continued to work. This drive to succeed was ultimately for their coach. “We are working our butts off during practice,” said Howard. “This year we wanted it so badly -- for our coach.”

Coach Jim Changaris spoke about how the team has pulled through the season and prepared for NCS.

“They’ve grown a lot in experience compared to the beginning of the season,” said Changaris. “The team has a very good athletic ability, and 4 or 5 incoming kids, which helped solidify the team.”

Even though the team didn’t win NCS, they went far in the season, with their pos- itive attitude overshadowing the loss of the title. Overall, the team’s passion and growth has proven to be superior than “just a title.”
