Amazon Brick and Mortor Bookstore Opening in Walnut Creek
Amazon.com is planning to open a book store in downtown Walnut Creek; this will be second book store open in Broadway Plaza.
The only other book store is Swan’s Fine Books, which sells used, rare, and collectible books.
“Currently, Walnut Creek has nowhere for people to buy new books and so we offer our used books,“ said Laurelle Swan, owner of Swan’s Fine Books.
When Amazon Brick and Mortar opens in Walnut Creek, it will be the ninth store in the U.S. It's other locations are in Seattle, San Diego, Chicago, Dedham, Lynnfield, New York City, Los Angeles, and Portland.
“I do wish that it had been an independant book store opening up and not Amazon,” said Swan.
Although these two stores will only be 0.3 miles apart, they are different stores and Swan is not incredibly worried.
“They’re just two different shopping experiences,” said Swan. “Part of me is actually glad for the community, that there will be somewhere for them to buy new books, right here in Walnut Creek."
Another book store, Bel and Bunna's of Lafayette had something similar to say. "I think initially it will affect my business, but I think the difference between Amazon and book shops like me...is that they're not personal and we are," said owner, Bel.
