Chalk Drawing Contest
The chalk drawing contest is a chance for Las Lomas artists to make their mark on the campus by using their imagination, creativity and chalk to create their own masterpieces in the rally court.
With few rules, the artists have free range to draw what they will as long as they stay in their square.
The contest ran from May 15th to May 23rd.
One of the artists, junior Ana Greer drew the woman's face and junior Lindsay Hack drew the butterflies next to her.
Greer enjoyed experimenting with the chalk.
"Chalk is better than other mediums because it's very bendable," said Greer over text. "But you draw on a horizontal surface instead of the usual vertical and you have to go around the picture to do it so it doesn't smudge and it's a lot less precise and pigmented overall."
The Fun Friday Committee was put in charge of organizing the chalk drawing contest.
"Last year it was really cool and we are hoping its going to be as cool as last year or even better," said sophomore Maddie Martinucci who is part of the committee.
If you take a walk past the rally court you will see an abundance of colors and when you take a step closer you can see the colors come to life.
From astronauts to aliens, to cartoon characters to beautiful faces to nature, there is an arrangement of fun and funky, elegant and beautiful, eye catching masterpieces that can open one's mind to imagine what the ideas behind the art was.
"My picture was inspired by the incoming summer sort of like Mother Nature setting lose the beauty of summer and so that's why it's so bright orange and yellow like the sun and the blue hair is like waves," said Greer over text.
"It was overall a fun time" said sophomore Natalie McCormik who co-drew the Alien with sophomore Anya Romer-Cominos. "I will definitely do it next year because it was a great time," added Anya.
The winner of the competition is yet to be announced.
