Good Chemistry Compensating for a “Lack of Height“

During practice after school, the Boys Varsity Volleyball team was on the volleyball court split up into 2 groups. One group practicing their serves and the other practicing their receives. Two players consecutively hit the net with their serve, so as penalty Coach Jim Changaris had them do sprints on the court.
The season is going positively in Las Lomas’s favor. This year the team has three Sophomores who got into Varsity, which is a rarity. They’ve won 16 games out of the 25 they’ve participated in, Northgate Broncos being the most recent, with the final score being 3-0.
“They’ve been doing real well...when other schools play a game with us, the teams are not just camping on one player they have to kind of play all of us,” says Coach Changaris. There isn’t just one player running the show. There is a sense of stability and community within the team.
“Volleyball is going great this year, although we do lack a lot of height, we compensate with great team chemistry...I think we will have a good chance at taking first place in North Coast this year,” said Senior Daniel Nguyen. One really notable game was against the College Park Falcons, it was a really close 5 gamer lasting for almost 2 hours, but Los Lomas took the win.
They have been doing more than satisfactorily but there is always space to improve. “We are a fairly strong team and have tons of potential to get better...it’ll be interesting to see how we progress” says Senior Ryan Astor. Sophomore Nathan Mcutchen is thankful to be apart of a team with such a strong connection and spirit.
“Being a Sophomore on the team I don’t get on the court quite as much, so I have a great time when Coach C puts me in.” said Mcutchen. The team has made it to North Coast, now their just trying to fight for a better seed.
