Boys Golf Team Narrowly Misses Victory Over Campo, Holds on to 10-1 Record

With solid performances and a 10-1 record, the boys golf team is on the rise. The team barely missed victory during their April 13 match against Campolindo, resulting with a final score of 201-200.

“From a historical standpoint, our team is pretty good,” said junior Max Holm. “We have four seniors starting this year, and it’s always nice to see the culmination, especially within my last three years of being on the team.”

The matches consist of nine holes of golf, with the team’s top six golfers competing with their top five scores. During practices, the top four golfers play nine holes together, along with the bottom four players. The top six golfers with the top five scores get to participate in the matches.

Overall, the team has shown strong performances, with Campolindo being their hardest competitor. “To get to this point, where our team is so successful, it’s just cool to see our growth,” said Holm.

Besides, the matches and drills, the team has made many memories together.

Holms talked about a match last year against Miramonte when their teammate senior Conor Flannery “just had to make a bogey on the last hole to win the match” Instead, he took a 14.

“We give him crap about it all the time,” said senior Grant Johnson. Ultimately, a Miramonte player wrote the wrong score—”The score card actually showed that they played worse,” Johnson said—so the Knights won because Miramonte was disqualified for cheating.

Johnson said that the best part of this year’s season is having a good team.

“When I was a freshman I don’t remember winning a single match,” he said. “Over my high school career, it’s nice to have new players come in that make our team become stronger. We have a really strong team.”
