Las Lomas Fashion Show
At lunch on Thurs. Apr. 20, the Fashion Club put on a fashion show in the rally court. The Fashion Club meets every Tues. in room 502. Seniors Taylor Callan, Samra Noory, and Georgie Wetherill are the leaders of the club and the hard workers who were able to put the exciting event together.
"I saw the fashion show two years ago and so that inspired me to do it this year," said Noory.
The fashion show took about a week and a half to organize. The students in the Fashion Club spent this period of time choosing their chic outfits, creating the perfect playlist, and selecting decorations to enhance the venue. On the day of the show, a black carpet runway was placed in between the lunch tables and was embellished with gold stars and streamers.
The show featured 22 models of different grades each wearing a unique look.
"The theme of the show was mostly street style although we put a twist on it because we told everyone they could wear whatever they wanted to wear, not a ball gown or anything, but in the general area of street style," said Noory. "And so that's why there was a variety of outfits and we let people get creative with it."
Before the show began, Noory introduced the fashion show participants as "models from near and far.”
Junior Hannah Portner was one of the models in the show.
"Girls rarely get to flaunt themselves in a way that is valid to them and boosts self confidence that doesn't have the threat of cat calling or danger included. I loved being able to show the world how much I love myself in a way that was welcomed and celebratory," said Portner. "My fashion expresses my individuality while being unapologetically rainbow me."
In addition to the students, stylish English teacher Ms. Anders made an appearance in the show, flaunting her pair of sleek, black high-heeled boots.
At the end of the show all the models came out at once and took a bow.
Everyone involved with the event was very pleased with how it turned out, especially Wetherill.
"I'm really happy. Everyone looked like they were having fun doing it, and that was the point," she said.
Wetherill has a true passion for fashion and utilizes it through her work at the clothing store Labels Luxury Consignment in Walnut Creek. "My favorite thing about fashion is the fact that every single person can show who they are through it."
Fellow fashion club leader Noory also loves to express herself through fashion. "There's no limit to what you can do with fashion," she said.
When asked what her favorite part about being in the Fashion Club has been Noory said, "Probably this moment right now, seeing the fashion show come together… It's amazing how it came out perfectly."
