Thoughts on the Block Schedule
Q: Did you enjoy the trial block schedule?
A: “I think it was definitely more relaxing and I think that’s what they were going for.”
—Rena Otake, senior
A: "I thought it was more effective. You didn’t have them [all classes] everyday so then you could focus more on like, the homework individually rather than have to do it every night and then you could manage your like schedule a little bit better.”
—Alejandra Ruiz, sophomore
A: “I liked it, but, I didn’t like the awkward breaks in between. I felt like those should be shorter and make lunch longer. But overall, I thought it was good. Some of my teachers didn’t really get it though. Like in Spanish we just sat there the whole time.”
—Taylor Davis, freshman
A: “I did not enjoy it overall but some of my classes, especially classes like English benefited greatly from it. While some of the classes did not at all. Some of the classes are better with the daily classroom experience, like 50 hours every day. Instead on the block schedule, classes like Calculus and such they just get stretched out and we have to change our curriculum and what we learn everyday to fit that need.”

Q: How did it benefit your life as a student?
A: “In math, we did a lesson and we did our classwork and then we actually got to do our homework and like try it with him and like work on it. I’m in Geometry honors and it’s a hard class so it was easier and it was nice to be able to go through it all.”
—Taylor Davis, freshman
A: “Personally, I like the idea of academy hours in the new block schedule. We have not experienced academy hours in our preview for it this year. but, from what I can tell, an hour extra to look over any class that you’re probably doing bad at, seems like a good opportunity.”
—Munkh-Ulis Davaasuren, junior
A: “I don’t know if it really benefited me as a student. I guess it does help with your stress levels and you feel you have fewer assignments. The longer periods and they give you academy and stuff you also get a lot of free time.”
—Rena Otake, senior
A: “I thought that having more time in class, you could approach the teacher more often and ask them more questions individually. In Chemistry, I thought it was a lot more helpful, in drama I thought it was really fun because you have more rehearsal time and stuff.”
—Alejandra Ruiz, sophomore
Q: How did it negatively affect you as a student?
A: “I feel like it’s too much free time. I don’t know if it will have the de- sired affect that they want like they’re hoping people will use as a study hall of it. People who want to study will study anyways and academy will just give other people free time to go on their phone or something.”
—Rena Otake, senior
A: “I think a lot of the teachers didn’t know what to do so, most of my classes we just sat there and didn’t do much and I feel like only going two or three times a week, if you miss one day too, you’re kinda screwed.”
—Taylor Davis, freshman
Q: If you could change something about the schedule, what would it be?
A: “I would say that minor alterations could be made to the passing periods if possible because the ten minute passing periods are a bit too long and the extra time that could be shaved off that could be potentially added to lunch.”
