The Las Lomas wrestling team is on the rise and won the Battle of the Creek match vs Northgate. with the final score of 40-20. The wrestling season has been going on since November, with great performances from Las Lomas.
Junior Nicky Bossert, spoke about how the season has been for him, “My favorite part of wrestling is winning and being with the team,” said Bossert. Senior Connor Aiello, also spoke about the team. “This season has been very fun....Northgate brought a great team and it was a fun night of competition for Las Lomas Wrestling,” said Aiello.
The season ends in March with state championships. “The day to day has been the best part of this season...Just the day to day and being with your friends makes wrestling fun,” said Aiello.
Wrestling is not an easy sport. Most wrestlers have to adjust their diet in order to enhance their performance. Although, Connor disagrees. When asked about his personal experiences, Aiello has been wrestling since his freshman year. “It’s really by choice whether you cut or not. From my friends who do it, it can be tough on your mind and body and school, for sure,” said Aiello
Although Aiello has had many successful tournaments, he claims that his biggest accomplishment is how wrestling allowed him to grow as a person. “There are a lot of little accomplishments...Winning tournaments are fun, winning matches are great but it really allows you to grow more as a person,” said Aiello.
As for dieting techniques that wrestlers often practice, Aiello disagreed and doesn’t go too extreme with cutting weight. “It’s not mandatory and doesn’t have any benefits...Guys have a persona that the lighter you get, you’ll wrestler better and you’ll be stronger, but that’s not really how it is,” said Aiello.

When asked about his personal experiences, Aiello explained how he got involved in wrestling. “A senior brought me to a practice one day and I’ve been hooked ever since...It’s a great sport, the fundamentals and stuff are great. You get physically and mentallytougher and it can help you in any aspect of life,” said Aiello.
Training and competing for this sport are difficult, especially when athletes have to keep up with their studies. Strangely, Aiello finds maintaining his grades easier during the wrestling season. “While wrestling, I get more hyperfocused...Wrestling is very detailed which carries into everything else to when I’m making breakfast in the morning,” said Aiello.
All in all, Aiello’s experiences with wrestling have shaped him into a better person. “I really fell in love with the process the product is always great to see how you end up, come like, NCS in state,” said Aiello. “ The harder you work the closer you get together with them,” said Aiello.
Connor has received many letters from colleges about continuing further with wrestling after high school, however, he has enlisted in the Navy and heads out in July. “It’s a good sport, the fundamentals are great...You get physically and mentally tougher and it can help you in any aspect in life overall,” said Aiello.
