On Wednesday, Feb. 15, the boy's soccer team played their first round of NCS at 5:00 pm against Windsor High School. They came out victorious, with a final score of 1-0. Senior Ben Borglin scored the one goal of the game; it was a cross from the 6 yard box. "It was exhilarating, but at the moment I didn't think it was going to be the game winning goal," said Borglin over text.

It became evident that many of the athletes on the boy's soccer team also felt wonderful about their win after a couple more conversations with them over text.

"Our team knows that when we focus and play our best soccer there is not another team in NCS that can beat us so it was important for us to not have any outside distractions going into the game," said senior Zach Babka. "We scored pretty early so we knew it was important for us not to have any let downs and keep our level of intensity for the whole game."

"Our attitude going in was really intense, in a good way. We were really stoked to be in NCS and to have such a high seed and we wanted to prove that we deserved the #6 seed. Everyone was really focused before the game and during warmups and it helped us come out hard and do well," said senior Nick Cerdan. "I was a little nervous going into the game but soon realized that it was the same game we've been playing all season, and then, I just focused on doing what I do every game to help the team win."

"We felt a little relieved but we knew we had a big game coming up this weekend and that's where we needed to shift our focus," said Babka when asked over text about how he felt about the big win.

"Favorite moment of the season for sure. Definitely up there with our wins over YV, Campo, and Northgate, which all were special for me," said Cerdan.

The boy's next game is on Saturday, Feb. 18 against Richmond at 7:00 pm at Richmond High School.

After the boys the girls also played their first round of NCS against Albany High School. They dominated the field, and won 6-0. Senior Haley Brown scored three of the goals, senior Kelsi Schacht scored one, and sophomore Ella Lipelt scored one. The other goal was an own goal, scored by one of the girls from Albany.

"I was very excited because I usually don't get to score considering I play defense," said Lipelt over text.

The girls worked very hard all season to get to NCS. "I am so proud of our team for winning last night and being able to have the chance to move on into the second round of NCS. Our team has so much love and we are all so close. We all work hard for each other, and that game showed how much we want it," said senior Haley Brown over text.

"It was an awesome feeling! It was really different from the league games because NCS is a big deal and to make the season longer, we have to keep winning. It was awesome to assist Haley Brown 3 times because everyone knows she is a great soccer player and now I can say 'I played with her and I assisted her'," said freshman Uki Fujiwara over text.
